Amidst the sadness of Charlie Kirk's death, what I heard in prayer
After Charlie Kirk’s death on Wednesday, I immediately went into prayer and began to fast. The following day, I went to Eucharistic Adoration and emptied myself out at the foot of the Cross. I continued to fast for two more days. I share this because as a recovering chaos addict, I knew better than to keep participating in the immediate aftermath. As someone who once allowed myself to be constantly deceived by the enemy, I know how easy it is to react from emotion and speak from the flesh instead of speaking in a surrendered state that allows the voice of the Lord to come through. This emptying myself out before God was the only way I could be confident that what I write to you echoes His voice, not my own. I certainly did my best.
And as I prayed, I heard the Lord say, “In the coming weeks, millions of people will be reaching out for the hands of My disciples. But many of them will be so distracted by chaos that they won’t see the hand reaching for help. Don’t fall for the distractions of this world. Someone near you is about to reach for your hand. Take it, and gently lead them to Me.”
In this painful moment for the Church, when the forces of evil seem louder than ever, we must remember one thing above all: fix your eyes on Jesus.
Revival is here. But revival begins with prayer. If demons are furious with prayer, then we must ask ourselves, are we praying enough? We cannot carry peace into the world unless we are first filled with the peace of Christ. We cannot pass along what we do not have. First, we receive from Him. Then we release it through discipleship.
Right now, many people are wrestling, discouraged, and in need of help. The world is drowning in the noise of lukewarm faith, shallow understanding, and illiteracy of Scripture. But Jesus never called us into comfort; He called us to pick up our cross and follow Him. Following Jesus means more than carrying a burden. It means allowing Him to lead. It means loving our enemies, defeating the counterfeit spirit of hate with the love Jesus taught us, and refusing to fall for the spirit of vengeance by countering it with justice rooted in mercy.
We cannot fight spiritual battles with earthly weapons, although we absolutely must rise up and use our voices in this hour. Understanding how to do this is going to require fervent studying of the Bible and constant prayer. The enemy is cunning and many are falling into the trap of warring against flesh and blood, leaving the powers of darkness to continue waging war in the unseen. The enemy wants to distract us with division. Left versus right. Us versus them. But that is the enemy's game of psychological warfare. He attacks our senses and our emotions, trying to provoke us to respond from the flesh.
I understand the fire rising in so many hearts right now. We just have to be sure this is the fire of the Holy Spirit. The enemy wants to lure us into the wrong kind of fire. He wants to pull us into the flesh and trade our armor of light for weapons of rage. It is not a weakness to acknowledge we must war on our knees. God needs to show you what to do and say. He needs to show you how demons hate what they cannot mimic — humility, sacrificial love, and steadfast joy, to name a few. They cannot counterfeit the fragrance of Christ that comes from a heart fully surrendered. That is why our most dangerous weapon against hell is not aggression, but holiness.
We do not fight as the world fights. We fight in the secret place, on our knees before God, wielding our weapons. This is not retreat. This is resistance at the highest level. The enemy wants to scatter us. To that I say, let the enemy find us instead at the foot of the Cross, more united, more prayerful, and more steadfast than ever.
As someone who is a recovering chaos addict, please hear me: do not give in to the chaos. Stop being an echo chamber for the enemy. I am seeing a lot of this. You must pray before you speak. Pray, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” We are all called to live a life of praying without ceasing. If we answered this call, we would be far more effective at echoing the voice of God instead of the voice of the world. I am still working diligently on this myself.
One of the most helpful strategies I ignored for decades was attaching fasting to prayer. I fell for the trap of “women can’t fast because of their sensitive hormones.” That is a lie of the enemy. We are called to pray and fast often. When you deny your flesh, and this does not mean from just food, you are able to hear what God commands of you. Then when you open your mouth, you can speak with confidence that you are echoing the voice of God.
Always remember that every person you encounter is a child of God. We are called to disciple, not attack. To proclaim truth, not to manipulate power. Division is the work of the enemy, and unity in Christ is our greatest weapon. Peace threatens darkness because it reflects the Kingdom. So let us rise, not in anger but in holy surrender. Let us be a Church that loves without compromise, prays without ceasing, and follows Jesus with eyes fixed on the Cross.
Revival begins in us. Revival begins now.
